Overview of HIV and the current antiretroviral medication
Louise will review the basic virology of HIV and disease progression, local epidemiology and care cascades. She will review the current antiretroviral guidelines and present some case studies reviewing the "medication conundrums”.
Assoc. Professor Louise Owen is a Sexual Health Physician and the Director of the Statewide Sexual Health Service in Tasmania, based in Hobart. The service has full time clinics in Hobart and Launceston and outreach clinic in Devonport. HIV, Hepatitis C, transgender medicine and routine STI testing and treatment along with genital dermatology are part of the wide spectrum of clinical conditions managed by the service. Louise has been involved in sexual health and HIV education and is passionate about sharing knowledge. She is regularly involved in education to GPs, Tertiary, Post Graduate and undergraduates around HIV, sexual health and related topics. Louise is a vice president of ASHM (Australasian Society of HIV, viral hepatitis and Sexual Health Medicine) and a member of a Ministerial Committee on Blood Borne Viruses. She sits on a number of steering committees covering matters such as nPEP,PREP, Syphilis and HIV.
