Dr Juanita Breen has an extensive background in pharmacy and aged care research. After gaining a PhD at the University of Tasmania, she was appointed Senior Lecturer at the Wicking Dementia Centre in 2015. Dr Breen developed the RedUSe (Reducing Use of Sedatives) program in 2008, the first national intervention aimed at reducing psychotropic use in residential Aged Care. RedUSe involves audit, staff training and interdisciplinary review. To date, RedUSe has been run in 172 homes. and has been recognised with international and national awards. Dr Breen presented her work at the Royal Commission into Aged Care in May 2019. Juanita works as a Senior Lecturer in Dementia Studies at the University of Tasmania.
