Red Eye - OTC Chlorsig or refer?

Red eye is a common presentation at the pharmacy, but causes can range from benign to sight threatening.  Which red eyes are appropriately managed with Chlorsig?  How can you differentiate between bacterial conjunctivitis and other causes of red eye? Which red eyes need an urgent eye examination with an optometrist or ophthalmologist?
